The Naked Truth About Breast Implants: From Harm to Healing, by Dr. Susan E. Kolb

Susan Kolb a medical doctor who is uniquely qualified to tell this story because she has a specialty in plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as extensive training in holistic medicine. Furthermore, both silicone and saline breast implants have been in her body, and she confronted the health challenges such prosthetic devices can produce. While her story is very personal, it also reflects the experience of hundreds of thousands of other women. The story she tells involves multinational corporations, public health concerns and governmental organizations that have betrayed the very people they are charged with protecting. Suppressed research, legal battles, government hearings, political corruption and corporate greed are part of this saga. Yet it is also about healing, for it contains the promise that those involved will learn greater responsibility. As Dr. Kolb says, "Sometimes we all have to learn the hard way."

excellent read

This book was very informative. I had just recently learned that I was sick from my implants and found a support group that recommended this book. I loved the stories told by her actual patients and could very much relate them to my own illness. If you have implants, or want implants, this book will OPEN your eyes to many things. Outstanding and timely
By msglenn
This book is written by THE authority on the subject and a must read for (IMHO) any woman with or considering breast implants. If I had known the truth years ago, I would have saved myself and family a great deal of heartache. I was fortunate enough to be treated by Dr. Kolb when I became very ill. When I began reading the book, I couldn't stop until I was finished. And then I couldn't stop talking about it. Her writing is intriguing, comprehensive and motivating. I marvel at her depth as a scientist, a surgeon, and most importantly a compassionate voice and caring healer for the women that need her.

Saved My Life
By Ginger Rhodes
I had heard mixed opinions about the safety of silicone breast implants and wasn't sure who I could believe. It seemed that all the sources that I had asked said that they were completely safe and had absolutely no correlation with auto-immune disease. However, after being sick for years with no known cause for my sudden decline in health, I began to take matters into my own hands and stop taking their word for it. I happened to stumble upon Dr Kolb's book on amazon. After reading her book in one sitting, I knew my answer. I read story after story of women's accounts that were nearly identical to mine. I knew then and there what I must do--have my implants removed asap!! Sure enough, upon examination, we discovered that both implants had been leaking toxic chemicals into my body and had leaked into my lymph nodes. Dr. Kolb removed my implants en bloc and the lymph nodes with confirmed silicone toxicity. I'm regaining my health slowly and am so grateful for the gift of life and health. I give credit to God for hearing my prayers and allowing me a second chance at life. If you find yourself in a similar situation wondering if your implants could be the cause of your sickness, I highly recommend this book and either Dr Kolb or Dr Feng for having an explantation.

About the Author
About the author: John Pasquarelli is perhaps best known to the Australian public for being Pauline Hanson’s political adviser after her election to the Federal Parliament in 1996. Pasquarelli authored Hanson’s maiden speech which has gone down in Australian political history as the most controversial and recognised maiden speech of any parliamentarian since federation. Since 1960, Pasquarelli has periodically lived and worked in Papua New Guinea and was a member of that country’s first parliament, 1964-1968. He was the first to discover the gold and copper at Frieda River in 1963 and shot crocodiles when he began his trading activities on the Sepik and Ramu Rivers. Pasquarelli is acknowledged as an expert on Oceanic Art and he collected for Nelson Rockefeller in the 1960s. He was a substantial donor to the PNG National Museum and during his time in parliament had the famous Haus Tambaran at Kanganaman on the Middle Sepik declared National Cultural Property. In recent years, Pasquarelli has become a talented artist, selling his works to prominent Australians and staging a number of public exhibitions. John currently lives in Townsville where he maintains a keen and active interest in Australian and PNG politics and occasionally appears on the Alan Jones Breakfast Show. This is John’s second book after his best selling The Pauline Hanson Story By The Man Who Knows.

The Straight Six by John Pasquarelli
www.johnpasquarelli.com, Kindle version Amazon.com 260 pages, US$7.55.

This is a novel that was dying to be written. Horseracing, drugs, politics, intrigues. Low life and high society. Fascinating technical details of human and animal viscera. Intimate sexual details. The dry and disconcerting humour of the central protagonist – hardened ex-New Guinea patrol officer, Jack Read.
Insurance investigations are usually run of the mill. The loss adjuster makes enquiries, submits a report and collects a fee. But when horses, their jockeys, veterinarians, strappers and trainers, bent coppers and standover men are involved, there has to be a reckoning. And middle-aged Jack Read is the man, for all his doubts and faults, to get a handle on things and in the end survive for another day.
The thrill of the race. The Straight Six at Melbourne’s Flemington Race Course is a punter’s dream. Horses sprint their hearts out, even better assisted by elephant juice. Money is won and lost depending on who is in the know, going all the way to the Victorian Police and Corrective Services Minister. Rent boys, bikies, paedophiles, bisexuals, and horny women all get their day. Jack Read, always a keen observer, is sometimes a smart operator.
The story has a promising start involving an elephant. But this is followed by a lesson on racing history, fortunately behind a prologue barrier. And so to chapters one and two – a suspected dishonest personal injury claim – introducing a few characters (and a love interest of course) and then into race horse claims in chapter three. The novel canters into an easy rhythm from about chapter four.
All is genuine real life drama. The author has a way with words. One can live in Melbourne and not really be there. We are getting everything about the city, its people, its cafes, trams (‘raising swirls of dust from the fine sand directed where its braking wheels made contact with the tracks.’) and weather. Pasquarelli the painter creates the colour, atmosphere and dialogues of Emile Zola. He has the measure of the city, its environs, people and animals, as well as Sydney, including Balmain and Manly.
I remember, when living in Melbourne, real-life elephant juice scandals. I’ve had an interest in race horses. I rode one of the author’s nags – a pathetic but honest thoroughbred which sadly ended its days put down by a vet after it had ripped its fetlock in a wire fence. The Straight Six is for horse lovers, punters, and readers seeking a human and humane streak of honesty delivered in plain language with insightful repartee, an intriguing plot and a touch of class.
This is a truly filmic novel with great potential for a mainstream publisher to make a killing.

This newest edition of Penelope Leach’s much-loved, trusted, and comprehensive classic—an international best seller for twenty-five years, with nearly two million copies sold in America alone—encompasses the latest research and thinking on child development and learning, and reflects the realities of today’s changing lifestyles.

In her authoritative and practical style, Leach responds fully to parents’ every concern about the psychological, emotional, and physical well-being of their children. She describes, in easy-to-follow stages from birth through starting school, how children develop: what they are doing, experiencing, and feeling. And she tackles both the questions parents often ask—What does a new baby’s wakefulness or a toddler’s tantrum mean?—and those that are more difficult: How should new parents time their return to work, choose day care, tell a child about a new baby or an impending divorce?

Whatever the concern or question, Your Baby and Child supplies the information, encouragement, and reassurance every parent-to-be or new parent needs.

The Importance of Reading to Children
A web-exclusive guide for parents written by Penelope Leach, Ph.D.

When parents read aloud to their children, everyone wins. It's fun for the adult and great for the kids. Easy for you and good for them. You don't even have to ration it because, unlike TV or ice cream, there's no such thing as too much.

There's no such thing as too early, either. If you wait until pre-school to start reading to your children, you'll have missed out on years. If you even wait until they can talk, you'll have missed out on months. Start showing your baby pictures and telling her about them as soon as she focuses her eyes on the pattern on your sweater or the change-mat.

"Reading" to tiny babies is a way of talking to them; and talking not only speeds brain development, but cements relationships as well. Make sure that anyone who ever cares for your baby takes reading to her for granted."Reading" to older babies is a way of expanding their experience. You can't always find a real cat or truck or fried egg to tell him about, but you can always find their pictures in books. And linking the sight of things with the sounds of their names boosts language learning.

Reading to toddlers is education and loving and talking and fun. It's about language itself and discovering the joys of jokes and rhymes and huge long words that roll round the tongue and trip it up. It's about learning to "read" pictures to find the meanings of words or the answers to questions hiding behind those thrilling pull-tabs: where's the kitten gone? There he is...And eventually it's about the sheer, entrancing magic of stories unfolding between the pictures and the voice; playing to a dawning imagination, a fledgling ability to put herself in someone else's place.

And reading to pre-schoolers is all that, plus a welcome to our culture where everything--even on the information highway--revolves around the written word. Pictures on the page are his introduction to print; being read to helps him toward written language, now, just as it helped him toward spoken language two years ago.

Once your kids are hooked on being read to, they will never be bored if somebody will read, and since there are bound to be times when nobody will read and they are bored, they'll have the best possible reason to learn to read themselves.

Reading to themselves isn't a signal to stop reading to them, though. Whether your child is five or seven or nine years old when he starts to read stories to himself for pleasure, the mechanics of the words will still get between him and their enthralling sounds and meanings. Read just one more chapter; one more poem. You have nothing to lose and your kids have everything to gain.

Don't worry, you're going to be fine.
By John Reilly
I'm jumping in waaay late on this one, as my sons are in college now, but this book, and this lady, are wonderful. I was a stay at home dad (even though I bartended at night) back when there weren't many dads doing the child care thing. Penelope was an invaluable resource to me, as I didn't have lots of other parents to go to- when you're the only male in the bunch, you can hang out with the moms some, but TOO much seems creepy. So Penelope, T. Barry Brazleton, and a book called "It Worked For Us" (which is awesome, because it lists specific problems and then gives multiple solutions from real parents) were a HUGE help for me. I'd also be willing to bet that she has videos on YouTube. I would advise you to check them out as well. It's the hardest thing you'll ever do, but the most rewarding. And I swear, when that part of your life is past, you'll miss it. I know I do, occasionally. Whether this is some form of masochism or Stockholm Syndrome is up for debate, but I'd never trade my days with my sons when they were small, and the world was ours.

Missing Manual for Your Baby
By Emre Sevinc
When I heard that I'd be a father for the first time in my life, I had mixed feelings and started to ask myself a lot of questions. One of the questions I still ask myself is very simple: The baby arrived home safely and then what? In other words, where's the documentation for the most complex entity that I'll interact for a long time? I guess it is natural to ask this kind of question because I'm a professional software developer and having been involved with computers for the last 20 years I'm used to reading some detailed documentation before and during my interaction with things that I'm not familiar with. And I'm definitely not familiar with raising a baby (having a younger brother does not count, that was about 30 years ago and I don't remember much about the basics).

When I mentioned this to Chris Stephenson, former head of computer science department of Istanbul Bilgi University whom I had the privilege to work with and the experienced father of a wonderful child, he said that there was one book which he gave as a gift to every young parent expecting a child. Based on his advice I decided to buy and read "Your Baby and Child". And I'm very glad that I did.

Some of you may think it is a little bit too early to comment on the book; yes I'm still an expecting father, our baby is yet to come but after reading this book I feel much less scared and more confident. It full of so much practical information that I do not feel the need to go out and look for another book on this topic. The structure of the book is very straightforward, it is mainly organized by the age of the baby and then by the most important topics such as "feeding and growing", "everyday care", "excreting", "sleeping", "crying and comforting" and others such as "talking" which appear under the relevant age section.

At 560 pages it may seem a little intimidating or superfluous but the style of the author is very clear and almost every sentence contains nuggets of important information. Compared to some other books on parenting this book does not try to comfort you with endless humour, but just like a firm, caring parent it tries to be your guide in this journey. It also includes short reactions and thoughts of parents who faced different situations. The book comments on these, too, which I also found very informative.

I have no doubt that I'm going to keep it very close to our baby's bed. Some people may think that parenting naturally come to them, just like breathing, and there's no need to panick but having learned that even breathing can be studied I prefer to have a handy guide when it comes to interacting with my baby.

insightful and userfriendly
By Clover
Reassuring, non-preaching, with a warm tone, this book is the go-to-resource in the middle of the night, when there's not another parent you can ask, or when you're thinking about questions to ask the pediatrician in the morning.
A book so thoughtful that you'll find answers even after several years of parenting.
It is written in a very appealing and easy form.
I was given it as a gift, and have bought it many times for others. This is the book that I most often give to new parents (followed by "Unconditional Parenting" by Alfie Kohn.)

Vespasian, by Barbara Levick

From a pre-eminent biographer in the field, this well-documented and illustrated biography examines the life and time of the emperor Vespasian and challenges the validity of his perennial good reputation and universally acknowledged achievements.

Examining received opinions on Vespasian, Barbara Levick examines how this plebeian and uncharismatic Emperor restored peace and confidence to Rome and ensured a smooth succession.

Outlining how he gained military experience and political skills, Levick goes on to explore how Vespasian coped with the military, political and economic problems of his reign, and his evaluation of the solutions to these problems, before she finally examines his posthumous reputation.

Part of the bestselling Roman Imperial Biographies series, Vespasian will engage, enthral and inform both students of classical studies and history, and the general classical enthusiast alike.

Levick's Vespasian -- the only game in town.
By David J. Martz, Jr.
The previous half dozen reader reviews of this book (mostly lukewarm) have fallen into two catagories: quibbles by other period specialists and complaints from those who wish Levick would try to impart some readability to her scholarship. Of course the specialists beg to differ, that's what specialists do. No two would ever make the same choices in attempting to capture the same complex period. Those who assert that this book is very "dry" are right, but those who dub it "boring" have missed the point. Try to find another booklength biography of Vespasian in English! If one wants to learn about this man, this is an essential book and for that reason it deserves more than three stars. Levick is a scholar emerita. We can regret that she did not learn her craft in an era when some historians recognize the value of writing for a wider audience than the tiny circle of their fellow cognoscenti, but we do her wrong if we fail to credit her with writing a work that is the first of its kind.

History Not A Biography
By David A. Wend
This book is better termed a history of the Flavians rather than a biography of Vespasian. Despite a glowing review (in the Bryn Mawr Classical Review), I have reservations about the achievement of Barbara Levick in writing this book.
I was looking forward "Vespasian" since, until now, there has been no biography in English about this emperor. Aside from a history of his reign, I was hoping this new book would provide some insight into Vespasian's personality and his relations with Titus and Domitian. To an extent, Professor Levick fulfilled this expectation but not on the level I was hoping. For example, I was interested in a broader assessment of the fortunes of the Flavians, particularly their rise under Caligula and Claudius and Vespasian's fall from grace. I would have liked more about Titus' education with Britannicus and his presumed presence at the poisoning of Claudius' son. I think the latter instance is pure Flavian propaganda.
The Judean War is related as a recitation of the facts with little elaboration. We do not get a full picture of Titus's role in the war. He was an inexperienced commander and showed this in more than a few mistakes he made. If Vespasian allowed him the glory of capturing Jerusalem he made sure that his son has a seasoned professional to advise him: Tiberius Julius Alexander. Titus' pivotal role was in handling the delicate negotiations between the parties involved in the Flavian rebellion met with scant attention. Without his traveling from person to person, Vespasian's rebellion would never have happened. The role Queen Berenice in these negotiations is not brought up. Since her brother, Agrippa II, was in Rome until after the Flavian rebellion began, and she was romantically involved with Titus it would have been interesting to have more insight into her role.
A discussion about Nerva from Professor Levick is sorely wanting. He is briefly mentioned, which I think is odd for such a pivotal Flavian supporter. I would like to know her ideas about his mysterious contribution to the Flavian cause that earned him an ordinary consulship with Vespasian, the only consulship he did not share with Titus.
The best parts of the book for me were the last two chapters (Vespasian and His Sons and Conclusion) where Professor Levick brilliantly sums up the Flavians and their impact on history. However, Vespasian does not emerge from this book as a flesh-and-blood personality. Some of the chapters, particularly Restoration of the Roman World, which deals with events in every part of the empire, would have benefited by adding headings in the text. This would provide easy access to the information. I was perturbed over Professor Levick's shorthand in referring to ancient sources. The Annals of Tacitus, for example, are abbreviated TA and the notes are crowded. The source is not immediately identifiable and I wish more intuitive abbreviations were used.
I cannot agree with other reviewers that Professor Levick selects "boring" emperors. Tiberius and Claudius were anything but boring, and their reigns were pivotal in the history of the principate. I think that there is room for another biography of Vespasian, written in the form of a true life of the subject, and including chapters dealing with the state of the empire, army, art and literature. Ms. Levick's book is not the last word on her subject.

Great disappointment
By jrmspnc
There is no fault to be had with Levick's attention to detail, or her painstaking research. Where Vespasian falls flat, however, is in style and organization. Levick eschews the narrative, and spurns a chronological approach to her subject. She chooses instead a subject-oriented organization; not bad in and of itself (Michael Grant largely pulls that off in The Severans), but her dry style and over-attention to obscure details and constant quarrels with other scholars make the absence of a narrative approach nearly fatal.
Levick also buries any hint of her own voice or feelings. Obviously, she must have a keen interest in Vespasian to have invested such a large amount of work in the book. Yet none of her interest comes through. Contrast that with historians such as Norwich, Tuchman, or Runciman - a passion for their subject shines through each of their works. The best historians set out with the mindset, "This is a fascinating era of history, and I'm going to show my readers why they should think so, too." Levick seems to have other priorities.
Perhaps academics can appreciate Levick's work (and perhaps the Italian translation is more gripping); for the amateur, however, looking for an enjoyable, educational foray into Imperial Rome, Levick's Vespasian is best avoided.

About the Author
For the past two decades, Cecie Starr has been known as one of the best-selling biology textbook authors. Her texts, appreciated for their clarity in both the written word and the visual representation of biological concepts, include multiple editions of BIOLOGY: THE UNITY AND DIVERSITY OF LIFE, BIOLOGY: CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS, and BIOLOGY TODAY AND TOMORROW. Her original dream was to become an architect. Instead of building houses, she now builds, with care and attention to detail, incredible texts based on this philosophy: "I invite students into a chapter through an intriguing story. Once inside, they get the great windows that biologists construct on the world of life. Biology is not just another house. It is a conceptual mansion. I hope to do it justice."

Beverly McMillan has been a science writer for more than 25 years and is coauthor of a college text in human biology, now in its eighth edition. She was worked extensively in educational and commercial publishing, including 8 years in editorial management positions in the college divisions of Random House and McGraw-Hill. In a multifaceted freelance career, Bev also has written or coauthored 10 trade books, as well as story panels for exhibitions at the Science Museum of Virginia and the San Francisco Exploratorium. She has worked as a radio producer and speechwriter for the University of California system and as science writer and media relations advisor for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science of the College of William and Mary. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.

Simple minded

If you don't have an interest in biology or prefer simplified versions this book is just fine. I found it to lack explanation. This is a book that belongs at a high school, not a college. My professor had a doctorates in veterinary medicine and PhD in veterinary medicine; he didn't teach form this book.

This book was needed for my class. Luckily my professor told us we could use the last edition for the class. What a money saver. The only difference was the location of the information in the sections of the book all the information was the same.

Well written, concise text, with excellent illustrations
By cachkn46
I used this book for a graduate level course in earth science. It was not required reading, but since I had no earth science back ground, I found that I needed to read a basic textbook in order to understand the journal articles that were required for the course. By the end of the semester, I had read most of this extremely well written book, and felt that in terms of mastery of the course content, I had surpassed even those who had majored in geology as undergrads. I am a very visual learner, and particularly appreciated the beautiful illustrations, many of which visually summarize key concepts. One of my favorite textbooks ever.

Great conceptual book for introductory Earth Systems courses
By Mari
I selected this textbook for my Intro to Earth Systems Science course on the recommendation of colleagues. I was very happy with the level at which the book is written, the quality of images and diagrams, a the topics covered. I did not follow the chapters in sequential order - for example, I think it makes more sense to teach concepts of atmospheric convection before ocean currents. The end of chapter problems were also a bit hit or miss. But I was happy with the book and it received favorable reviews by my students.

This book was recommended by the instructor and follows his lectures. It is very informative as textbooks go, and although I am not overly interested in science, it answers a lot of questions.

Where Shadows Dance: A Sebastian St. Cyr Mystery, by C.S. Harris

The “rich period detail [and] riveting action”* C.S. Harris delivers in her Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series reaches new heights as the aristocratic sleuth navigates dangerous political waters to bring a murderer to justice…

Regency London: July 1812. How do you set about solving a murder no one can reveal has been committed?

That’s the challenge confronting C.S. Harris’s aristocratic soldier-turned-sleuth Sebastian St. Cyr when his friend, surgeon and “anatomist” Paul Gibson, illegally buys the cadaver of a young man from London’s infamous body snatchers. A rising star at the Foreign Office, Mr. Alexander Ross was reported to have died of a weak heart. But when Gibson discovers a stiletto wound at the base of Ross’s skull, he can turn only to Sebastian for help in catching the killer.

Described by all who knew him as an amiable young man, Ross at first seems an unlikely candidate for murder. But as Sebastian’s search takes him from the Queen’s drawing rooms in St. James’s Palace to the embassies of Russia, the United States, and the Turkish Empire, he plunges into a dangerous shadow land of diplomatic maneuvering and international intrigue, where truth is an elusive commodity and nothing is as it seems.

Meanwhile, Sebastian must confront the turmoil of his personal life. Hero Jarvis, daughter of his powerful nemesis Lord Jarvis, finally agrees to become his wife. But as their wedding approaches, Sebastian can’t escape the growing realization that not only Lord Jarvis but Hero herself knows far more about the events surrounding Ross’s death than they would have him believe.

Then a second body is found, badly decomposed but bearing the same fatal stiletto wound. And Sebastian must race to unmask a ruthless killer who is now threatening the life of his reluctant bride and their unborn child.

From Publishers Weekly
An overly convoluted plot mars this otherwise solid historical set in 1812, Harris's sixth featuring aristocratic London detective Sebastian St. Cyr (after 2009's What Remains of Heaven). When surgeon Paul Gibson finds a cadaver that he bought for anatomical study with a stab wound at the base of the skull, Gibson brings the matter to St. Cyr's attention. The corpse is identified as that of Alexander Ross, who worked for the Foreign Office. Several other murders follow, at least some of which may be linked with the political turmoil roiling the Continent in the wake of Napoleon's invasion of Russia. Meanwhile, Hero Jarvis, the independent daughter of St. Cyr's archenemy, accepts his marriage proposal, but this dramatic personal development compensates only in part for the failure of the disparate narrative threads to come together neatly enough. Series fans will hope the intriguing lead character will return to form in the next installment. (Mar.)

Characters you care about...intriguing plot.
By Kindle Customer
Great series with a continuing thread of mystery about the main character. All the characters feel real. Each book tells its own story but they should be read from the beginning. The author has done a good job of building each plot around a real incident in Regency England without making that incident the focus of the plot. Just enough romance...not pages of explicit sex.

Fantastic story. I can't wait for the next one in the series!
By LoveMyBooks
The 6th book in the Sebatian St.Cyr series was as good as I hoped it would be. I had been practically counting the days till March 1st, to obtain this book & read it and was worried whether the author will be able to keep up her great work. After all even good authors have their "off" books. But I loved this segment of the story too. Small SPOILER ahead: Sebastian St.Cyr, Viscount Devlin continues his exciting life of solving murders and his complicated but very interesting relationship with Hero Jarvis does lead to their marriage at the end of the book. But what a story between the betrothal & the wedding.

The story starts when Sebastian's friend, surgeon Gibson accidentally stumbles upon the body of a man who was believed to have died of natural causes, but was murdered and the investigation of it leads Sebastian into a plot filled with international intrigue. I completely agree with a previous reviewer that the body count in the story did seem extremely high. Spoiler again: In fact many of the new characters Sebastian spoke to ended up murdered. Every chapter had me going," another one!". But it wasn't in the nature of a cheap blood and gore story and there was some relevance for all the murders in the plot. Hero did pull a Lara Croft towards the end of the story as a previous reviewer said. What a woman! A true mate for Sebastian. Their marriage seems to have started up really sweet, in the last chapter.

I am a Hero fan and would have no regrets seeing Kat Boleyn disappear from the story. But as it is petty to want to see her as part of the body count, I will be content as long as Sebastian falls out of love with her :-)I really like Paul Gibson the surgeon, so commited to his science and a great friend to Sebastian. Sir Lovejoy the magistrate is another endearing character that interests me. In fact other characters in the storyline such as Lord Jarvis, Earl of Hendon are all such multi faceted characters, though they play only short parts in this book. Usually after book 6 in a series it is hard for an author to keep up so many mysteries to reveal in future books about the same characters. But there is still so much more we want to know about them that is still to be unveiled.

Basically this is a great historical murder mystery based in England with great strong characters that stay in your mind for a long time. Riveting hero and a heroine who is even more riveting in that she is an unusual woman of her times. C.S. Harris has a true fan in me. And I do hope we won't have to wait tooooo long for the next book in the series. If you haven't read the other books in the series, I highly suggest reading them in order: "What angels fear", "When Gods Die", "Why Mermaids Sing", "Where serpents sleep" and "What remains of Heaven. Those who like historical mysteries, mixed with a little bit of romance, which are nicely written might like this series.

Where Relationships Heat Up and the Body Count Rises
By lifewontwait
I've been a devotee of C.S. Harris' Sebastian St. Cyr mysteries since the start of the series and found this book to be a very satisfying entry. I finished it in a day and it left me wishing that the next book would appear much sooner than currently scheduled!

Other reviewers have covered the complex plot in detail, so I will just say that there was an amazing amount of action and character development in this book. Usually after six books about the same protagonist, the reader comes to think they know just about everything there is to know about him, but Harris always has an intriguing revelation or two about St. Cyr and his family, and this book hints of even more to come.

It was good to find Sebastian and Hero reaching a point where hope for their future happiness as a couple seems realistic despite the inevitable complications that will arise with both their families, and I especially look forward to seeing how the author handles this. She has a real knack for bringing all the secondary and even peripheral characters to life, and I'm hoping that some of the new ones introduced here, such as Hero's younger cousin Sabrina Cox, will appear in subsequent books.

The body count was a bit of a surprise--if things keep up at this pace, Paul Gibson will never lack for dissection subjects as long as he knows the St. Cyrs! I had a good laugh over the scene where Sebastian, in full formal regalia, startles the second set of Resurrection men at 3 A.M. in the cemetery. They could have been justifiably wondering if they were being confronted by a noble vampire! The way things fell apart at the conclusion of the exhumation was entertaining too.

I didn't find the actions Hero took to escape her predicament to be out of place or out of character. She's a strong, capable, intelligent young woman with no illusions as to what would have happened if she hadn't fought back, not some milk and water miss who would cry "Oh!" as she fainted dead away and allowed her captors to do their worst.

I look forward to the continued adventures of Sebastian, Hero & Co.! Will Hero gain the Tiger's trust? Will Sebastian's relationship with Henton be restored? Will the couple find a balance in their relationships with Jarvis and Henton? Will more St. Cyr family members reveal themselves? I can hardly wait to find out!
