The book went a bit too wide sometimes with it's topics. (not unneccessary topics, but sometimes a bit offtopic)

You have a huge future ahead of you in God but you also face a legitimate uphill climb to reach it. Simply put, your life demands courage. With that said, it is quite possible that sexual integrity isn’t necessarily a fight you will choose to take on. Christian or not, it may seem easier to live sexually active and not bother swimming against the current of sexual acceptance or even deal with the peer pressure of resisting. Your thoughts might be: “There are bigger things intimidating me right now and I’m not sure if I have the energy or vision to fight off this battle. I’ll just let whatever happens happen—and pay the price later and hope for God’s mercy. Maybe He can help me fix whatever problems I might create now through sexual activity later after I’m married.” I don’t condemn you for thinking that way sometimes. Besides, you’re probably one of the many young adults who loves God and wants to do what’s right. If you could snap your fingers and remain sexually inactive until you marry the right one I’m sure you would. Although it doesn’t work that way, perhaps if you at least had some helpful tools and enough inspiration, you would probably give Biblical sexual purity a real shot. Well, I believe that God has a message for you to hear and my hope is that some of those helpful tools will be found in this book. Sexual integrity according to the Bible is not about perfectionism. Just as easily as Christians can get sloppy and loose in this area, the best of us, on the flip side, can get legalistic and critical. We won’t do well in either extreme. God simply wants your whole heart. God loves and wants the real you, both when you’re at your best, and when you’re at your worst. He wants you to welcome Him in every part of your life, including that part of you concerning sex, relationships and future marriage. God sees your desire to please Him and your passion to reach for Him in this area. You wouldn’t be reading this book right now if it weren’t true. Again, God’s will is your sexual purity; but thankfully His way is always best. His instructions are for our benefit. His heart is for our good. Therefore this God-journey is intended to bless you. May this book be fuel for your specific and adventurous journey. You are special to God. Your desire for sex and marriage is God-given. He understands you and is bringing you into a place of significance and value.

A MUST READ for all

Pastor Sam's book provides real life, biblical answers to the age old question, "How do you wait to have sex until the right person comes into your life?" Sam is qualified to handle such a subject, not only as a gifted bible teacher, but by his own personal day by day struggles and victories in abstaining from sex until the day when my daughter, Pastor Kimberly, entered his life and became his wife some 16 years ago. You will find this book funny and hilarious, thought provoking and challenging but most importantly, you will learn how to handle the emotions of such a wonderful, powerful and holy God given gift of sex in the right way, HIS WAY.

HE SAYS: In a culture and unfortunately (church culture) that is steeped in sexual bondage and confusion, Sam Beckworth does a phenomenal job tackling this subject with a fresh, positive view. It's right there in the title..."Yes". This is really the theme and Sam's approach in every chapter. To all the "don'ts" associated with sexual promiscuity in the Bible, Sam gives a positive interpretation by spending more time than any other author i have read on the subject underscoring God's heart for his people (and all people) regarding the gift of sex. I have pastored in the sexual recovery ministry for over a decade and I cannot think of a church body that wouldn't see immediate impact from implementing this book and its principles to youth and adults alike. Every youth pastor and parent needs to buy this book, absorb then teach this book to our youth so they are not only equipped for the battle surrounding this subject but prepared to accept God's gift of a mate that He wants to bring them.

SHE SAYS: Where on earth was this book when I was growing up? Pastor Sam tackles the difficult and, more importantly, highly contested subject of sexual purity in this fearless, thorough, humorous and honoring work. In a world where Christians oftentimes allow culture to set the standard, Sam upholds the Word of God as the true plumb-line. He is transparent yet careful to present the Biblical parameters for loving sexual encounters in a way that is neither over-bearing nor judgmental.

While this book can (and should) be read by teens and young adults, parents such as myself will flock to its wisdom and timely nature. The truths are presented so honestly (lets face it, he's just plain hilarious) and thoughtfully its a book you will not want to miss out on buying. In fact, buy a dozen...you'll find yourself passing them out like hotcakes!

Nergal says, "Buy this book and you be having the smarts"

In a publishing world where it seems that just about every fantasy story out there insists on being part of some sweeping trilogy or epic series, set in worlds filled with more back history than the poor reader can keep track of, Slave of Chu Kutall is a refreshing change. What Michael McCloskey offers the reader is a world rife with fantastical creatures, fabulous weapons, magical monsters, strange lands, and most importantly, a half-orc protagonist named Nergal. Nergal escapes from a slave galley, and is forced to adapt to cultures and customs quite alien to him as he joins, somewhat unwittingly, a questing band of adventurers who seek to dispel a great evil from the local kingdom. This book will get you to laugh thoroughly as it offers glimpses into the simple-but-perceptive thought processes within Nergal's orcish mind; Nergal's struggles to understand and be understood by his companions are at turns touching and hilarious.

At first glance, the plot of this book might seem a bit trite, with its dragon-slaying, its plethora of strange races, and its quests against monsters and evil wizards. But McCloskey reminds us of why such devices became trite in the first place--he makes them fun again. As much as the book will inspire laughter, it can also get the blood pumping with action sequences reminiscent of the best of Robert E. Howard. And to a great degree, the effectiveness of both humor and action can be attributed to the depth of Nergal as a character. More than the simple gimmick of a humanized monster, Nergal routinely crosses the lines between nobility and baseness, heroism and evil, maturity and peurility, and cleverness and brute stupidity, often without noticing that there might even seem to be a contradiction between one and the other. As Nergal's tale progresses, this book will take you to strange lands, threaten you with hideous monsters, confront you with bizarre forms of intelligent life, dazzle you with spells and enchantments, thrill you with battles and duels, and keep you entertained to the very last word.

Nergal very good

Nergal of Nod is the slave of Chu Kutall. He is a brilliantly constructed ravenous half-orc hero. He is always hungry and will eat almost anything, including giant arachnid legs, because, as he says, `food helps Nergal think'. McCloskey shows us inside this creature's mind, as he joins a band of human adventurers to eliminate a compelling series of obstacles. Nergal possesses brute force and a simpleton's brain, which made me chuckle often. He is also very acquisitive, and whenever he finds something and can pocket it for himself he does. We see things from his naive perspective, and so his journey and the ending have a specific developmental focus. And Kantru, the main villain of the piece shares features with Frankenstein. But you will have to read on to see what I mean!

Awesome!! Nergal is new and refreshing type of hero.

Slave of Chu Kutall is so much more than just another fantasy book. It is a true epic story that is written from the point of view of not so bright half Orc. Nergal's view's of the world will make you laugh, cringe, but make you realize that ours is not the only view. From his first encounter with his new human friends, Nergal shows us many sides of his personality and McCloskey does and excellent job of portraying the growth of Nergal and how his views and morals change as do the events in his life. I found this book very hard to put down; which is almost the opposite of most books on the market today. McCloskey also has a very well thought out plot and does a superb job tying events early in the story to events and situations that arise near the end. Slave is not just another Orc slaying frenzy story, but a well put together world in which we a catch a glimpse of through the eyes of one of its many denizens and unlikely heroes.

Some intriguing moments

When I was a teen, I loved this book, so I pulled it off my shelf to see if it was as good as I remembered. Elizabeth Austin, who is cured of epilepsy when electrodes are implanted in her brain. Another electrode allows her to view another woman's life. This woman lives a dream life about 100 years ago in upper-society England. As time goes on, Elizabeth discovers the woman's life isn't as idyllic as it seems and has an equally sinister future.

Breakthrough has some intriguing moments. I still enjoyed the concept of time travel and suspense, but it was very slow moving in places. Because I had read it before, the ending was expected. I won't give any spoilers, but I found the ending a bit of a disappointment.

I also checked this out from the library after reading Replay, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The basic premise was: A woman suffering from epilepsy has an experimental procedure performed on her in order to help lessen the severity of the seizures. But a strange side effect occurs when she tries it -- she sees through the eyes of another woman. She feels what the woman is feeling. The interesting part was that the woman lived about 100 years ago, she's a prostitute, and she is a maniac. Murder. Intrigue. Time travel. A great twist at the end. This book deserves to be in print. Check your local library.

I read this book because I loved Replay and I thought this one was just okay. The story starting out interesting but I just hated the ending. I felt sorry for the husband and the other good characters and felt let down at the ending. I thought this book would be better than it was. Don't buy the book.
