Peter Burian is Professor of Classical and Comparative Literatures and Theater Studies, Duke University.

Alan Shapiro is Professor of English and Creative Writing, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A winner of the prestigious Lila Wallace Reader's Digest award 1992-95, he is the author of several poetry collections, including Tantalus in Love, Song and Dance, and The Dead Live Busy.

Wonderful translation

I'm acting in a new play based in ancient Athens during the age of Euripides. We discuss THE TROJAN WOMEN in the play several times, so I decided I needed to reread it. I read the beginning of several translations, and this one is by far the best. It captures, as best as a translation can, the sense of poetry. It also has a useable table of contents which is very important when using a Kindle.

NO link between text and endnotes in Kindle Edition

The one star refers only to the difficulty of reading the endnotes in the Kindle edition. The play is one of the greatest Greek tragedies and the translation is excellent. There are extensive and useful notes. However since there is no link between between the text and the notes--as in other Kindle editions-- the reader has to guess where to go. This is cumbersome and takes up too much time. The paper copy is much easier--if you like to read the annotations.

Not a Great Textbook

I think there is an issue when the most pertinent information is often found in the captions, not in the body of the text. Decent examples, just very light on actual text. The students did not care for it much, either. I hope to use a different book for the Design Fundamentals next semester.
